creative collaborative gatherings
Let’s uplift and connect your community through creative collaborative gatherings. We will focus on place-based projects that have meaning for the community we live in. When we come together, it is important that everyone keeps the space safe through their actions and words. As human beings, we are all just trying to find our way in this world. For that reason alone, we can be civil and keep our communities a safe place to live.
I will keep this space updated with current projects. Please contact me if you have questions or suggestions for a community project!
Empty Bowls - May 1st, 8th, 15th -2024 Civic Center -Shelton, Wa.
This three-night event is a fundraiser for our local food bank, St’s Pantry. First night, participants create a bowl out of clay, instructors are on hand to help. The second night decorate your bowls with glaze. Third night, pick up your bowls with a $10 donation, enjoy a bowl of soup donated from local restaurants, and take part in an interactive artwork based on information how you can help end hunger in your community and worldwide.
I first proposed this event back in 2003 to the City of Shelton Arts Commission. At that time, I was a member of the board and taught ceramics through the city’s Parks and Recreation program. The original Empty Bowls event was started back east in the 80’s by a potter who asked her potter friends to donate bowls in order to raise awareness that there are many in the community whose bowls are empty. I decided to have participants make their own bowls since I was teaching to the community. Since then, it has grown and turned into a favorite community event. I continue to fire the bowls and participate in the instruction nights. I am grateful to the Shelton Arts Commission for continuing this event.
